WallyWorld Ammo
Had to make a run to WallyWorld tonight, and stopped by the ammo counter. This is a different store than the one where the wife picked me up a 100 rd. box of .45 ACP.
Anyway, I check the ammo counter, and I see they have some 100 rd. boxes of the Federal .223 in 55 gr. FMJ for just under $40. Cool - that's about going rate when you figure in shipping, etc. But then I see a strange box next to it. It's a 200 rd. value-pack box of Federal Power Shok for $76 and change, but I can't see the caliber. When I finally get a clerk over, I ask to see it, and it's also .223, in 50 gr. JHP. Based on the prices I've seen lately, that seemed pretty competitive. I picked up two boxes. I can find a lot of dealers selling Power Shok .223, but none have the 50 gr. JHP. Just wondering if anyone's shot any of this or has heard from someone who has. On a side note, there was a shitload of 12 gauge in bird, buck, and slug. The only 9mm and .40 was the Winchester target stuff, but they did have 3 x 100 rd. boxes of the Remington UMC in .45 ACP JHP. |
Re: WallyWorld Ammo
Wal Mart is hard to beat for price. Can't say about that 5.56 aka .223 ammo, don't own anything that will shoot it, but it sounds like good stuff. As for the .22 cal, .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .38 spl, .308, and 12ga, yes, I buy all those at Wal Mart. While they don't have the selection you'll find at a gun show, the price is usually better for the regular stuff.

Re: WallyWorld Ammo
I was in Wally's yesterday looking for some .308. Didn't see any so I asked. The guy said they had sold a lot of that caliber this year, and were presently sold out. I find this about every where I look, even on the hunting ammo, not just the FMJ mil-surp stuff. Somebody must be watching daily and cleaning them out every time they get in a new supply.

Re: WallyWorld Ammo
Our walmart is usualy slim pickings and the only hand gun ammo i ever see there in anythng above .380 is Winchester White Box, Remington UMC or Blazer Brass.
I get the Winchest WB when we go to the bring your own ammo ranges. Its dirty stuff and not 100% reliable, but at 28 bucks for 100 rounds, there isnt much cheaper out there. unfortunatley also the only JHP .45 ammo they have is winchester, but its slightly better quality than the WWB. I might pick up some of the blazer brass for 14.98 a brick of 50. This is why im contemplating a 9mm for the range, and a .45 for defence. |

Re: WallyWorld Ammo
About Wal-Mart. I find the same china junk other places as I do there. While looking for a good metal yard stick for doing lay out work on sheet metal in my home shop, I checked Lowe's and Wal-Mart. both had a couple different types to choose from, but I ended up buying a piece of flat stock aluminum figuring I could do with out the inch marks and just use a tape for a measuring stick. Painted on inch marks don't stand the test of use around sheet metal. I am resisting the urge to buy anything not made in America. Ammo, would be the exception. I will be checking Gander Mt today for some hunting ammo in .308 Win.

When I see a box of 20 rds going for $40 I know i can build the same thing or better for under $10, I kind of back off. :thumpdown Actually I wanted to get some .308 cases that weren't mil-surp brass for reloading later, after firing them in my bolt gun. You understand, fire formed and neck sized in bolt guns, of course.:emotions16: |

I too, visit WalMart only for ammo, and tonight was no different than my last visit. No .308! |
Re: WallyWorld Ammo
Made that trip to Gander Mt yesterday. I found only 6 boxes of .308 on their shelf. At $30 for the cheapest I only bought 1 box. Gun powder was also in short supply, picked up another pound of H380 no Varget, no IMR4064, no IMR4895, got lots of that also lots of IMR3031. They had lots of primers but no .308 brass and some .30 caliber bullets.

Re: WallyWorld Ammo
Update: Went in to the WallyWorld closest to me to see if they'd gotten in any more of those 200 rd. Powr Shok value packs in .223 JHP.
Side note - the Saturday before Christmas, about 7 p.m., and the parking lot is about 1/3 full. No real lines at the registers, about half the registers are open, it's clear sailing down all the aisles. But our local rag says the local economy's fine (of course, the editor's daddy is bankrolling her ass, so she wouldn't know anyway....) Back on-topic: The price sticker where the 200 rd. Powr Shok boxes were had been removed, so I guess that was a one-time good deal. They still had some 100 rd. packs of Federal .223 55 gr. FMJ available, and the price was still just south of $40 (unchanged). I was going to get a box of that until I spotted a lone 100 rd. brick of the Remington UMC in .40 JHP - it had been about three weeks since I'd seen one of those. So I told the clerk I'd take the 100 rds of .40. As he was ringing up the sale, he said, "Man, it's been crazy. We just got 10 of these in yesterday, and this is the last box." Yep, crazy indeed.... |

I also forgot to mention the military bases. Huge Naval Air Station to the west, one huge and one medium Air Force base to the east. If it weren't for them, the parking lots would be empty, because those are the only folks left with money to spend.... |
Re: WallyWorld Ammo
I frequently buy Winchester whitebox handgun ammunition at Walmart. I particularly like cash and carry. Privacy is always worth something.
Take care, Mod1 |
